¹ Per-gift fees only; subscriptions excluded. All providers are compared without platform tips and without donor fee coverage, using standard published U.S. pricing. Givebutter also offers a tips-enabled model that can eliminate eligible nonprofit fees under its Guarantee; donors may pay processing costs and optional tips directly to Givebutter. That model is explained below and is excluded from these figures. Donorbox includes separate platform and Stripe caps. Rates checked October 28, 2026; confirm terms with each provider.

02 / Your donors. Your mission.

Their generosity should
fund your mission.

A donor’s goodwill is not an opportunity to solicit a second gift for a giving company. GivingTools is built to put more money in nonprofits’ hands.

THE PLATFORM-TIP MODEL

“Free” can ask a lot of your donors.

A platform tip is revenue for the giving company—not an extra gift to your nonprofit. A percentage-based tip can dwarf the processing expense, even when the nonprofit’s own bill is zero.

Reducing your expenses helps your mission. But asking donors to pay the platform substantially more than those expenses is a different proposition. Your team should consider the full cost to the people funding your work.

THE DONOR RELATIONSHIP

Don’t make generosity an opt-out exercise.

Donors can edit or remove Givebutter’s optional tip. But that still asks them to evaluate another payment at the moment they intend to support you.

When “supporting free fundraising” sounds like giving more to the nonprofit, a donor can miss who actually receives the money. Discovering that afterward can turn goodwill into frustration. GivingTools reports hearing strong objections to platform tips from prospective customers.

THE GIVINGTOOLS APPROACH

Lower costs. Keep the extra support.

GivingTools does not solicit platform tips. Your nonprofit can offer—or require—an additional payment to offset processing expenses. Every penny of that additional payment goes to your nonprofit. GivingTools retains none of it.

Use “discourage credit cards” to encourage lower-cost ACH payments. Reduce the underlying expense first, then invite additional support for your nonprofit. The extra payment supports your organization, with none retained by GivingTools.

Put the extra payment in perspective

A $10,000 gift. A 50¢ ACH fee. A $1,000 tip?

A 10% platform tip on $10,000 is $1,000 paid to the platform, separate from the charitable gift—and separate from any processing-fee coverage. GivingTools Standard processes that ACH gift for 50¢. If the nonprofit sets the additional payment to cover exactly that fee, the donor pays $10,000.50 in total. A nonprofit may choose a different additional amount; every penny of that extra payment goes to the nonprofit, not GivingTools.

That is the distinction we care about: more support for your nonprofit, without using your donor relationship to seek extra platform revenue.

Illustration only: 10% is not asserted to be a default or required tip. Givebutter publishes a 10% tip example in its own fee explanation; donors can change or remove tips. GivingTools’ $15 monthly subscription is separate.

Our position: a giving platform should make the destination and purpose of every extra charge unmistakable. Preserving donor confidence matters more than presenting a $0 bill to the nonprofit. See Givebutter’s own tip example ↗. Givebutter’s tips-enabled Guarantee can eliminate eligible nonprofit fees; its optional tips support its business.

03 / Follow the money

A bigger gift.
The same small
ACH fee.

GivingTools charges a flat amount instead of a percentage for ACH. See how that changes the cost of your next gift—or a whole month of giving.

Compare per-gift fees. Monthly subscriptions excluded.

Estimates use the plans above. Consistent basis: platform tips disabled and no donor fee coverage. Givebutter’s separate tips-enabled model is excluded from these estimates. Understand tips vs. fee coverage ↓

Manageable installments.

04 / Think beyond the donate button

Make room for
bigger generosity.

A recurring gift starts with an installment. A campaign pledge starts with a goal. GivingTools lets donors set a total pledge and automatically calculates the installments.

That makes it a compelling option for capital campaigns, annual commitments, and supporters who want to spread their generosity over time.
